Lakes in Hungary

Lake Balaton is the biggest lake in Western and Central Europe: which is 77 km long.

Other key lakes are Lake Ferto, which is a shared-border lake with Austria in West Hungary and a UNESCO site.

Lake Valence, South West of Budapest with two main holiday resolts: Gardony and Agard.

Lake Tisza in the Northern Great Plain Hungary.

Lake Feher near Szeged in the South.

All these lakes offer water sport activities and waterside promenades and beaches. These lakes are all popular weekend destinations with the city dwellers and all have many cafes selling langos (a deep fried dough topped with cheese and sour cream), hurka kolbasz (a large, pork, black sausage) and palacsinta (a crepes like pancake also served with sour cream and soft cheese).
