Villány wine region in Southern Transdanubia

More information

Villany is one of Hungary’s top wine regions dotted with castles and thermal baths in the Southern Transdanubian region. It is known for its reds and rosés. The wine region has long and hot summers with abundant sunshine, followed by a mild winter. Thanks to this sub-Mediterranean climate wines from Villany are full-bodied and spicy and of the highest quality. The majority of Hungary’s award-winning wines are produced in this region. According to archeological finds winemaking traditions in the region can be traced back to Roman times. Portugieser is a key player here along with the ‘Bordeaux varieties’ like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Zweigelt, Kadarka and Pinot Noir wines are also planted here. Beside Villany it is worth visiting the wine cellars of Villanykovesd too.

We are organising private wine tours combined with Pecs town and Siklos castle with our comfortable minibuses/cars from Budapest:
